Summer Fun with Urban Alliance!
Raising A Village Foundation and Urban Alliance DC partner to create a Career Exploration Summer Intensive for local rising 10th and 11th graders at The Commons at Stanton Square, home of Martha's Table. The program's goal is to give students a head start in thinking about their futures for college and beyond. The Summer Intensive includes free continental breakfast and lunch, transportation and on-site community service opportunities with Martha's Table. Throughout the two weeks, students learn the ins and out of career readiness, which includes resume building, interviewing skills and networking.
The goal of this program is to give students the time and space to explore their unique career attributes like their interests, values, and skills. Most significant, Urban Alliance and Raising A village staff lead this group and help clarify connections between those career attributes and academic and professional interests. Students have said that working through this process with a group of peers is fun, reassuring and brings new perspectives on their academic and extracurricular experience. You can bounce ideas off of one another, connect outside of the workshop, and provide help and support to other classmates who are in the same boat. In an exploration workshop, students are able to:
Explore interests and talents that clarify connections between personal interests, academic interests, extracurricular interests, and potential careers.
Work with a group of peers to learn ways to make balanced career decisions while taking into account your unique interests, values, and skills.
Learn the various resources offered by Urban Alliance and create personalized action plan to continue your progress toward your established goals.
