RAV Teams Up With Ward 6 Commissioner Davina Carson to Support Women’s Wellness

On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, Raising A Village team members Galilhea Calderon, Community Outreach Associate, and Grogan Thames, Admissions and Recruitment Associate, had the honor of attending a Women's Wellness and Resource Day event hosted by Ward 6 Commissioner Davina Carson. The purpose of this event was to connect residents of Liberty Place Apartments, a community of affordable apartments in DC's Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood, with local resources such as health and wellness checks, volunteer/job opportunities, and personal care items. Commissioner Carson serves on Advisory Neighborhood Commission 6E, representing the Mount Vernon Triangle, NoMa, Northwest One, Sursum Corda, Judiciary Square, and Downtown East neighborhoods. In addition, she is a resident of the Liberty Place community and assists with managing aspects of the neighborhood.

Grogan and Galilhea engaged with attendees by sharing information about RAV, offering health resources such as hand sanitizers, and distributing pamphlets and brochures. "It is important for us to be a part of events like this because a vital aspect of our initiative is to engage with and learn about families and communities as a whole," said Galilhea. "We heard from residents interested in signing up their young family members for the Driven 2 Succeed Program. In addition, it was such a wonderful opportunity to witness the thoughtful care and time Commissioner Carson dedicated to putting this event together for her constituents."
