Summer Associates Begin In-Person Training

On Friday, June 16, 2023, Raising A Village staff and our ten Summer Associates gathered at Wesley Theological Seminary to kick off their first day of in-person training for the Summer Acceleration Program. During their training, tutors learned how to implement important strategies in the classroom, effectively support students, and fulfill their capacities as tutors and mentors. In addition, Summer Associates received educational tips and tools during an interactive lecture by RAV alumni Kubarikiwa (Kubie) Rudd, which focused on best practices for creating a safe and positive classroom culture. "It was super exciting to learn the ins and outs of creating a positive classroom culture," said Summer Associate Olivia Jensen. "I look forward to services this summer and being in community with Raising A Village."

This summer, our tutors will serve students at Ballou High School and The Aya, an affordable short-term housing complex. We are enthusiastic about what is on the horizon for this talented group and look forward to watching them apply the knowledge they have gained in the classroom!
