We're Having a Blast at H.D. Woodson!

"Distance learning is no small feat, nonetheless, the Driven Student Guides, H.D. Woodson teachers, and students are persevering with immense grace and flexibility. The teachers at H.D. Woodson have done their very best to make the Driven 2 Succeed Program a hit. The program serves grades between 9th and 12th with approximately 15-20 students in each virtual classroom. Our tutors are in the classrooms on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday using Microsoft Teams as the main platform. Each class is unique in the ways that they engage the students and pull in the curriculum. The DSG’s are both in ELA and Math classes that require some Algebra skills and funny accents during play readings. A typical day involves whole-group learning and interaction for the beginning and middle of the class. Once the lesson has been taught and explained, the tutors have the opportunity to go into breakout rooms with specific students to further the lesson! It is different every day where DSG’s have to adapt and accommodate on the spot. After the tutors enjoy time in the classroom, they will follow up with a debrief Zoom call with their Site Lead, me! This is where we let our shoulders drop and get to know our team as a whole. We discuss logistics but, of course, go into sharing highs and lows. At this point in our program, we have had a blast with the teachers and students! The most memorable experience so far has got to be meeting the team and connecting with them personally every day in our debriefs."
