Emma Sergei: Welcome to the Village!
When looking through the Federal Work Study opportunities, Raising A Village stood out to me because it gives me the opportunity to continue to build my graphic design skills while not currently being in any graphic design classes and also gives me experience working with a nonprofit organization that has a great mission. Through working with Raising A Village, I hope to gain new knowledge and insight into working in the graphic design field and specifically working for a company. Though I have taken graphic design classes throughout high school, I never had the opportunity to work with a company to actually create posters, banners, and social media posts. I think this opportunity of working for Raising A Village will give me the chance to meet lots of new people from different backgrounds and with different interest, however, everyone will have one common goal, helping kids. I am currently a freshman at George Washington University and feel that being the graphic design intern for Raising A Village will lead to so many new opportunities, it will give me experience as a graphic designer, working with a team, and also teach me what it is like to work for a nonprofit organization. I feel that I am ready to put my knowledge and skills to work and excited to find out if being a graphic designer for a career is something I would be interested in. I love the message behind this organization but also how it came to be and I am very excited to start this new job and to be able to learn more about Raising A Village throughout my time here.
