Raising A Village Celebrates Juneteenth in Anacostia

Raising A Village commemorates Juneteenth as a day of reflection, celebration, and community. In honor of this historic occasion, RAV staff joined local Black-owned businesses and community members at the Mema’s Popups and Bread for the City Juneteenth Event in Anacostia on Saturday, June 17, 2023. This event fostered the opportunity for our team to partake in joyful celebrations, engage with residents, and help amplify the resilience, strength, and voices of the Black community. In addition, it allowed the community to come together to advocate for underserved communities to create a more inclusive and equitable society where all individuals thrive.

"It is so important that we continue to support and give back to the community, especially through Black-owned businesses," said Anjenee Cannon, Communications Associate, Social Media & Marketing. "Being here and getting to experience this celebration together, I think, helps deepen our connection to why we do the work we do."

This event was sponsored by Bread for the City, a nonprofit agency that provides resources and support for residents of underserved communities in the DC Metropolitan area. Click below to learn more about Bread for the City.
