Tower Garden Pilot Project
The Tower Garden Pilot Project at H.D. Woodson High School was a project launched by Raising A Village Foundation, and led by CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA, Site Lead, Mary Stuart McCamy. The goal of the project was to train student gardeners to grow vegetables, fruits, and herbs indoors in self-contained, soil-free structures that they assemble and maintain. The students were grouped in teams of three that include three special education students and one senior NAF Engineering Academy student as team leader that could provide up to 40 hours of community service credit as well as practical experience in the field of urban agriculture. The Raising A Village Foundation and its Driven 2 Succeed Program will reflect the committed partnership with H.D. Woodson high school through enhancing the current program offerings with an in-school service/learning opportunity. That focuses on a plethora of benefits in character building and skill development such as:

Gardening skills and greater awareness of the link between nutrition, health, and wellness
